Clive Scott was admitted to practice as a lawyer in Queensland in 1978. Clive has been a Partner of the firm since 1979. He held the position of Managing Partner from 1990 to 1998. Today, Clive is Connolly Suthers' Senior Partner.
Clive has practised extensively in matters related to negotiations, drafting and interpretation of commercial and property contracts. In recent years Clive has been closely involved in property development acquisitions which include not only pre-purchase due diligence investigations but also site acquisitions and corporate governance issues such as the preparation of joint venture and shareholder agreements where required.
Clive has also provided advice to our civil construction and quarrying clients in a number of areas including the preparation of quarry acquisition agreements, licences, service contracts and related matters.
Clive has a special interest and considerable experience in marine related businesses and maritime law. As a Director of the Coral Princess Cruises Group of Companies he has lately been actively involved in the negotiation and conclusion of the ship building contract for the Group's latest ship Oceanic Discoverer. In addition he has prepared standard contracts for vessel construction, slipping and marine services, demise charters, bareboat charters and vessel sale agreements for clients with interests in these areas. He has had numerous dealings with the Townsville Port Authority, Queensland Transport and other government and statutory agencies representing many clients who deal with these parties.
Clive is a Notary Public for Queensland. He is also a former Commodore of the Townsville Cruising Yacht Club and Townsville Motor Boat & Yacht Club and is presently an honorary life member of these clubs. He was actively involved in recreational yacht racing and holds Yachtmaster Offshore and Ocean Certificates issued by the Australian Yachting Federation. He is a former Yachtmaster Instructor and Examiner. He has also served on the Boards of the Pandora Foundation and the Maritime Museum of Townsville.
