Mathai Joshi
Senior Associate
Mathai is a solicitor in Connolly Suthers’ Criminal and Domestic Violence Law team, bringing significant experience in complex criminal litigation. Matt joined the firm in 2021 after practising in a specialist criminal law firm in Townsville, and he has since built a strong practice representing clients throughout North Queensland and across South-East Queensland.
Mathai holds a Bachelor of Laws from James Cook University and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law. He was admitted as a solicitor in 2018.
Mathai has represented clients charged with a broad range of complex and serious criminal offences. These include murder, manslaughter, drug trafficking, fraud, sexual offences, as well as traffic, regulatory, and disciplinary matters. He also represents clients who are required to appear before the Crime and Corruption Commission and regularly appears in specialist jurisdictions, including the Children’s Court, Domestic Violence Court, and the Mental Health Court.
Originally from Blackall and now long-established in Townsville, Matt brings a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by individuals navigating the justice system—particularly those in regional and remote communities. He is known for his thorough preparation, strong advocacy, and commitment to achieving the best possible outcome for every client.
Mathai currently serves on the Queensland Law Society Policy committees, and is the current President for the Queensland Law Society Future Leaders Committee as the first Regional President.
